Marisa Chrysochoou is the Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Missouri, beginning her role in August 2024.
Chrysochoou brings a history of dedication and excellence in teaching, research, and leadership to Mizzou Engineering. Before arriving in Columbia, she served as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Connecticut, where she directed the EPA Technical Assistance for Brownfields Program and the NSF Revolutionizing Engineering Departments program “Beyond Accommodation: Leveraging Neurodiversity for Engineering Innovation.” She has been an elected member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Department Heads Coordinating Council since 2021 and was honored by the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors in 2023 for
her outstanding contributions to environmental engineering and science education.
Throughout her career, Chrysochoou has demonstrated a noteworthy ability to secure funding and support for various projects. She has collaborated with program managers, government entities, advancement, and multidisciplinary faculty teams to showcase the talent and facilities of her teams. Her leadership has been instrumental in transforming engineering curricula and recruiting exceptional graduate students and faculty.
Chrysochoou’s research spans environmental geochemistry, surface chemistry, treatment and reuse of industrial waste, remediation of contaminated soil and sediments, brownfield redevelopment, and environmental justice. Also, she focuses on engineering education emphasizing neurodiversity and service learning. She has been recognized for her innovative approaches and significant contributions to the field, with her work supported by many grants from federal and state agencies and private industry.
